Environmental Sustainability

Most Canadian Health Care facilities have embraced and are committed to environmental stewardship.

Hospitals have undertaken numerous initiatives within various areas of their organization to achieve their environmental objectives.

Procurement initiatives embrace and mandate through their Environmental Policies the continuous evaluation of their purchasing practices in order to minimize adverse environmental impacts, to continue to improve their environmental performance and environmental health, and to prevent pollution wherever and whenever possible.

The environmental impact of the product's life cycle (raw materials, acquisition, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, use and disposal) has become a critical consideration.

The procurement of reconditioned equipment dramatically reduces the impact on the environment as compared to purchasing a new product.

Reconditioning of products reduces the overall use of resources by over 80% since many of the parts are recycled, and reused when appropriate thus reducing the overall impact on the environment dramatically while extending the life span of equipment.
